Income Tax Return Filing Deadline Extended to September 16, 2025

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the income tax return filing deadline for Assessment Year 2025-26 (Financial Year 2024-25) from September 15, 2025 to September 16, 2025. This one-day extension applies to individual taxpayers, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and all other non-audit cases. The original deadline was July 31, 2025, which was first extended to September 15 due to changes in ITR forms requiring additional testing and integration, and then further extended by one day due to technical glitches on the income tax e-filing portal.

Filing after September 16, 2025 will attract a late filing fee of up to ₹5,000 under Section 234F, along with interest charges under Section 234A.
